3 Important Things to Remember

ChessAnalysis
Hello Lichess friends! Have you ever lost a game in a winning position and something in the back of your mind starts to say: "Seriously? Why didn't you see the winning move? You idiot."? I bet everyone has had that experience before. If you would come with me and talk about these problems, I promise you will get over with it soon. Now let's blast off!

1. Winning and Losing

Some people, and most people (including me) has lost more games than they have won. But do you know why? Well, there is a simple answer to that: You learn more by losing games than you do by winning games. Why is that? It is because you learn from mistakes. Every mistake you make means 1 more thing in your mind. When you make a mistake, or even blunder, when you analyze a game after you've played it, your brain develop more memory and understanding and it will improve your problem-solving skills. And that is always why analyzing your games will help you.

2. Your Rating

Many people, after they win or lose a game, look at how many Elo point you got or lost, but that doesn't do any good. Your Elo is just some numbers on a device screen. Your Elo is only how you did in the past, and it doesn't affect how you will play in the future. Though it does show your level, and someone that has an Elo of 1500+ shouldn't play with a player that is like 800, your Elo doesn't define wether you are going to win or lose.
As my friend, Naomi123123, once said,"Your Elo is just a number on a computer. No one should get overwhelmed and frustrated over it."

3. Losing Streaks

Everyone, beginners, aggressive attackers, and even grandmasters had a losing streak some point in their life. And you were probably pretty frustrated. But let me tell you a trick my coach taught me. if you blunder, or even make a small mistake, take your mind to something else that is not chess. Take a moment to think about that. Close your eyes. When you are ready, think about the game again. That will help you refocus again. And instead of having a losing streak, you might even win!
