Pawns and why they are important despite their size.

Chess
I am going to give you some reasons why pawns are very important despite their size and value of only one point

Some of the reasons pawns are very important is:
1. If you can get then my to the end of the board you can exchange them for either one of your previously taken pieces or another of one piece. This means you could end up with seven queens.
2. On their first go they can move two squares. Sure this isn’t as good as the queen but its still better than one square!
3. En passant. This means that one your first go if your pawns end up in horizontal line you can take their pawn as if it had only moved one square. You can only do this on your first move. It sounds complicated but it is useful.
4. They take diagonally. Pawns do not take forward they take diagonally and although again it is only one square this can sometimes be useful.

If I was on the opposing team I would say:
1. Their value is only one point. They aren’t very high in points and En passant just means you get one point.
2. Getting a pawn to the end of the board is very hard as your opponents pieces will be guarding it. You can only really do this at the end of the game.

As you can see there is more good points than bad and I think all in all pawns are very important pieces despite their size and value. They are good opening pieces and also can be used in the ending because if you get one to the end of the board they can turn into a queen, knight, rook or bishop. The one thing they cant turn into is a king because then your opponent would have to checkmate twice to win. Pawns can actually win you a game as they are usually your last surviving pieces except for the king. I know from experience that this is true and I think that if you are thinking about sacrificing a pawn think twice because they are quite useful but only if you put them to use. Also remember that pawns have many things they can do such as En passant, trading for a queen, rook, bishop or knight and taking diagonally. If you sacrifice all your pawns and then your partner takes all your pieces this could end up with you just having a king and being checkmated in a instant.

This is why I think pawns are extremely important in a game of chess.
