It has been a long time since my last blog post, so I thought the best way to return would be to announce this big step in my life: earlier this year, my first-ever book was published by Thinkers Publishing!

The Catalan (1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 e6 3.g3 d5 4.Bg2) is an opening that combines solidity with dynamism. White almost always gets harmonious development and a safe king, while Black often struggles to complete his queenside development thanks to the strong bishop on g2. Sometimes it comes at the cost of sacrificing the c4 pawn, but White will always get more than enough compensation for it.

Initially it would have been just one book, but the material grew so large that eventually we had to split it into two volumes: the first volume deals with the sidelines on move 4 and everything after grabbing the pawn with 4...dxc4, while the second one will cover 4...Bb4 and 4...Be7.

Already during the writing period I could use some of my ideas and the following game from the British League is the best example for it: Black took the pawn on c4, but I followed my analysis up until move 19(!), where I was already better, but one more mistake from my opponent cost him the game:
