Fortun£ Friday$ February Edition – Prize Winners
Fortun£ Friday$ February Edition – Prize Winners AnnouncementFortun£ Friday$ February Edition won by Turkmenistan's newest Grandmaster!
Our tenth free-to-play February edition was another thrilling event! Turkmenistan's newest and soon-to-be chess Grandmaster, Saparmyrat Atabayev, went on an incredible 14-game winning streak, earning a massive 88 points to claim victory. His dominant performance was just enough to hold off Russian Super Grandmaster Dmitry Andreikin, who finished only seven points behind with 81.
Saparmyrat won the 2025 2nd Al-Beruniy International Chess Tournament just over a month ago, on the 11th of February, with a score of 7/9, winning via tiebreak score and securing his final GM norm! He now has all three GM norms, a rating over 2500, and is awaiting the official confirmation of his Grandmaster title later this month.
This marked the 18th edition of the Fortun£ Friday$ series, attracting 154 players from 55 countries! The event featured some of the world’s top titled players, including: 5 Grandmasters (GMs), 9 International Masters (IMs), 4 FIDE Masters (FMs), 4 Candidate Masters (CMs) and over 130 non-titled players!
