Why the rook is the best piece in the endgame

ChessEndgameTacticsAnalysis
Here are some reasons why the rook is the go-to piece in the endgame!

image Chess is a wonderful game. There is a board with 64
squares, 32 white and 32 black. Standing on some of those squares are pieces. There are several pieces in this game. On each side, there are 8 pawns, 2 knights, 2 bishops, 2 rooks, and 1 queen, as well as the main target, the king.
Here I will provide reasons why the rook is the best piece in the final stage of the game, the endgame. When the final few moves happen, which piece will rise the most? I will argue why it is the rook.
First of all, in this endgame picture, White is winning by one pawn. Black's rook is attacking the pawn, and threating to take it, but the king is just within reach of protecting it. Best of all, the rook is on an open file. An open file is when there are no piece on one line on the board. Plus, it has trapped the black king in a small space, which can allow the rook to torture the king by not letting in move past the rook. Soon, a checkmate is possible because the king can activate itself even more and assist the rook. No queen's here, because they were possibly traded or taken in some sort of set of moves.
Another reason why the rook is the best piece in the endgame is because of the low chance of stalemating. The queen is the best piece in the game, because of it's amazing ability to move up and down the board, as well as diagonally. But it has a small disadvantage in the endgame. The queen moving several places means the other king has fewer places to move. And that means a higher chance of stalemating.
The rook can only move up and down, not diagonally, and that gives the king just a few more places to move. Not too many, but a little more. Once the winning king activates, the other king is cooked. Just cooked.
Like in this example.
Black is clearly winning here, because it has trapped the king in a cage. He can move almost anywhere in the cage, because there is no other piece to give it a higher chance of stalemating.image

And that's why the rook is the best piece in the endgame.
