Who gave the pawn permission to promote?
In this article, we will explore the life of the pawn on the chessboard and how it parallels your HUMAN LIFE beyond the 64 squaresThe least in the Kingdom
The pawn begins its journey as the least in the kingdom, valued at a humble single (1) point while the other pieces hold the following values:
Bishop & Knight - 3 points each
Rook - 5 points
Queen - 9 points
Many of us sacrifice pawns without hesitation. And rightfully so because the pawn’s mission is one of self-sacrifice, often giving itself up so that another piece—perhaps even another pawn—can advance, especially if it becomes a passed pawn.
In real life: many start off feeling overlooked, working tirelessly so others can reach their full potential. But just as a passed pawn in the endgame suddenly becomes the most valuable piece on the board, those who persist through life’s struggles can find themselves in a position of great power.
Recognising your moment to promote in life
Speaking of passed pawns - We’ve all experienced that moment in the end game where the seemingly insignificant pawn suddenly becomes the most valued piece on the board where even the major pieces would be sacrificed in an effort to protect this passed pawn so that it can transform into a queen. But here’s the catch: not everyone recognizes when their time has come. Some are so used to struggle that they fail to see when the tides have turned—when they are no longer meant to sacrifice but to be protected as they prepare for their transformation.
So, who gave the pawn permission to promote?
When a pawn reaches the 8th rank (or the 1st if you're playing Black), it doesn’t need to ask for permission to promote. The rules of chess decree that its transformation is inevitable. But who truly orchestrates this change? The answer is simple: it is you and me who guide the pawn through perilous positions so that it can reach its full potential. WELL DONE TO US!!!
Just like you were able to recognize that it's time for your pawn to queen, take a moment and analyze whether it's time for you to go to the next level...
