What I realized about becoming a grandmaster
It was not as easy as i thought!Hi everyone, this is my first post for my Road to grandmaster, inspired by levy. I hope that he becomes a grandmaster as well!
I will try to become a Grandmaster at 2028.
So, my first tournament for this year is going to be a rapid tournament in Hotel Milenium, Bitola, Macedonia. Why rapid? I have figured out that playing rapid and blitz is extremely important( in moderation and not as an addiction) to improve calculation speed. I realized that i struggle with finding a plan according to the position with less time, which results in strategical misunderstandings. This is helpful ONLY once the player has reached at least 1700 OTB classical chess. The main point of this blog was my realization of how much time and effective study i need to devote in order to achieve my dream. Here is a rough schedule from morning to night on how a grandmaster would work:(a kid who has school,)
| 7:00 AM | Wake up, eat, and do school |
| 12:00 PM | Come back and finish school |
| 13:00PM | Finish school homework and lunch |
| 14:00 | Study Chess Openings deeply, look at important ideas |
| 16:00 | Study chess positions from real games to improve chess calculation skills |
| 18:00 | Do a LOT of puzzles, Such as Puzzle Streak, Puzzle Storm, and Puzzle Racer. |
| 19:00 | Eat dinner and physical exercise |
| 19:30 | Study endgames |
| 21:00 | Learn how to play stronger strategical chess, |
| 22:00 | Go to bed |
Sounds tight! on the weekends, i will replace school with solving chess studies, and rest.
Thank you for reading! See you soon,
Michael Burns
