We all know Pang Bo. The unrated chinese prodigy who absolutely shocked everyone at the World Chess Team Championship scoring a 11/11 in rapid and a 7/10 in blitz.
As some may know, today there's the update of the rating list. If you didn't know it, every last day of the month, FIDE (International Chess Federation) updates the ratings of each player who played in tournaments approved for ELO variation. The World Chess Team Championship Rapid & Blitz, where also the unknown and unrated Pang Bo played his first tournament, disputed from first to the sixth of august.
Why is Pang Bo so strong?
Pang Bo in a interview stated that he started playing chess at the only age of 6 years old and played a lot during his childhood. He became part of the team "Decade China" with an invitation from the captain Ni Hua who graduated from the same university of Pang Bo. Also, all the team coached/prepared Pang Bo before every game against different opponents.
What is Pang Bo new rating?
Since he played the mininum of 5 games in each time control, now FIDE calculated his rating and already applied it to his profile! He went from 1400 rapid (unrated) to 2200!!! He got to Fide Master level with only 1 Tournament! Meanwhile, he also reached 1946 fide rating in Blitz.
