The Ultimate Cheapo
Everybody no doubt has their own Cheapest Win story. Here's mine. :)I played Hobbs three times over the board, and this one was our first. The games generally proved interesting but rather sloppy. As was the case here.
My opponent's early piece sac caught me unawares; I underestimated the whole business and my defense proved none too sterling. By the time we got down to an endgame, he had a comfortable lead.
Now it was simply a matter of converting his advantage; all he had to do was activate his king and the rest would be a mere Matter Of Technique. Right?
Well, 9 times out of 10 that would be true. Maybe even 99 times out of 100. Here though there was a bit of a flaw--one germane detail which in his enthusiasm he somehow managed to overlook...
(I haven't posted the move he made; suffice it to say that it would be a no-brainer for Worstfish.) :)
Poor Hobbs! We all can (sadly) relate to that sort of thing, no doubt about it. So next time you pooh-pooh your bad luck in some topsy-turvy encounter, just think back to my luckless opponent (and what happened to him at the end of this game)... ;)
