Do you know what is the Bongcloud? well if you don’t I am here to explain. you may be seeing people laughing and joking about the “mystery” Bongcloud, you might feel embarrassed for not laughing yourself. well keep reading and you will know what is the Bongcloud!

I currently found 4 openings with a Bongcloud that has a name! 1. the Bongcloud attack 1.e4 e5 2.Ke2?? 2.Fried fox defense 1.e4 f6? 2.d4 Kf7?? 3.Barnes Opening: Hammerschlag 1.f3? e5 Kf2??
4.Kings gambit: tumbleweed 1.e4 e5 2.f4 exf4 3.Kf2??
well the above is all the Bongcloud games that have a name you might be now laughing right? but remember DO NOT PLAY THIS OPENING at a important chess tournament it might get you in trouble But you can play this openings in maybe bullet chess...

is it GOOD? or is it BAD?

You may be wondering how to describe a Bongcloud good? or bad? well it depends,what position are you in? but rarely a Bongcloud is good,99% of people did it for giggles but there are exceptions,some grandmasters even play this! (at the right time of course!) see below and we will explain some good Bongclouds played by world champions!

Magnus’s Bongcloud

We know that Magnus occasionally plays the Bongcloud as a joke but this time no joke,check out this game!

at 10.Ke2!! A shocking move, but in this position the Bongcloud is GOOD!!! it looks like a random move but it actually makes sense! it gets out of the battery pin, it moves a little space for the white pieces to get developed, and the king is actually quite safe in the center! if you don’t believe me use stockfish on it.
