Fisher was a genius in chess. The whole world now plays in Fishers time control. And Chess 960 became more and more popular.
Why? The answer is quite simple. The threshold of entrance is much lower then in classical chess. For amateurs it’s a big advantage, because you only need to know rules of the game to start playing. You don’t need to memorize tons of variations, techniques, plans and ways of playing.
For professionals its different. I see movement against Chess 960 and truthfully speaking I understand why. Because many professional players are teaching, they teach openings, moves and techaniques and they afraid that it is all disappear.
But if we look on this professionally, Chess 960 is even more complex then classical chess. They have all ideas and principles, all plans and combination of the beautiful chess game, but at the same time, they are different. Starting position is always changing and to the front comes the ability to transform position, to make it comfort one, to arrange good communication between pieces.
At the same time, good player should know ideas. The came from opening, strategic techniques, combinations. In other words, theory and knowledge exist in Chess 960 as well, but it is implemented in a more flexible way and you don’t know when this moment will come.
I should say several words about opening theory in Chess 960. In Fishers chess some positions are bad for black from the beginning and its very hard to equalize. Computer evaluates some starting positions as +0.9 , for example. And you have to know these positions, because black should play the only moves to survive.
The most important feature of the Chess 960 is the impetus to think and to play on your own. Even if you study and prepare, even if you analyze starting positions, you will always meet something new.
In Chess 960 you should think from the first moves, and if you don’t think you can get mated before 10th move. It really happens, I even will show you several miniatures.
