I don't think this simple pawn endgame exercise is suitable for kids
You will get this wrong. As a inspiring chess teacher i have to try out all the exercises before i go embarrass myself in front of kids. Losing a chess game isn't as painful as producing the Lucena position and explaining all its intricacies only for the student to beat you because you missed that 100 endgames you must know was only showing you one way to win out of 4.
I am looking for a way to slowly introduce endgame concepts, so after key squares and opposition in King and pawn vs King positions i thought i would do the next logical thing. Add 1 more pawn for each side and keep adding pawns until the chess lessons were understood. Well turns out it is not that simple. I challenge you to try and get this right on the first attempt against stockfish 8.
Then you can come back and watch all my failed attempts till i got the correct idea.
The final winning attempt
The first time i tried the puzzle
The frustrated 2nd attempt.
The 'genius' 3rd attempt.
