Motivation and Chess Improvement
Some practical advices for you. Before starting this blog, I have something to talk about.
I am actively seeking a club or team to participate in the European Club Championship.
My objective is ambitious yet achievable: to score 5 points out of 7 games and earn the FM (FIDE Master) title.
This challenge drives me to perform at my highest level, making me a valuable asset to any team aiming for success.
A motivated and goal-oriented player brings energy and commitment, which are essential for strong team performance.
Setting a Chess Goal
Progress in chess requires a well-defined goal.
Many players aim to improve, but without a specific target, it is easy to lose motivation.
A strong objective, such as attaining a title like FM, IM, or even GM, provides direction and purpose.
When a player has a concrete goal, training becomes more focused and productive.
Each session has a clear aim, making improvement more tangible.
Having a structured approach encourages consistency and helps maintain motivation over time.
The Role of a Coach
One of the most effective ways to accelerate chess improvement is to work with a coach.
A good coach offers tailored advice and addresses specific weaknesses, making training more efficient.
Beyond technical knowledge, a coach serves as a mentor, helping players navigate psychological challenges such as self-doubt and performance anxiety. Many players struggle with confidence, and discussing these issues with a coach can be transformative.
Importantly, improving at chess does not require spending a fortune—many strong trainers offer lessons for around 20 euros per hour.
Affordable coaching can still provide high-quality guidance, offering structured training and practical insights that lead to rapid progress.
Learning from Chess Streamers
Another valuable way to enhance chess skills is by engaging with chess streamers on platforms like Twitch.
Many high-level players share their thought processes while playing blitz games, providing an excellent opportunity to learn.
Interacting with them between games allows for insightful discussions and a deeper understanding of strategic thinking.
Observing their play and comparing it to one’s own helps identify areas for improvement, whether they are technical, such as endgames, or psychological, such as handling blunders.
By recognizing personal weaknesses, players can develop targeted training plans to refine their skills and strengthen their game.
Conclusion
Motivation is the driving force behind chess improvement. Defining clear objectives, working with a coach, and learning from experienced players all contribute to faster progress.
With a structured training plan and a determined mindset, any dedicated player can achieve significant results.
