I'll give him my hand again
Polish politician Jacek Wilk responded to the episode that occurred during the World Rapid Chess Championship.
Let us recall that at the tournament, which took place from December 26 to 30, 2023 in Samarkand (Uzbekistan), Russian Denis Khismatullin before the match extended his hand to his opponent, Polish grandmaster Jan-Krzysztof Duda, to which he responded with a gesture meaning refusal.
“Sport was supposed to become an alternative to politics, so mixing politics with sports is a sign of weakness and a contradiction to its very essence. An athlete must decide what he is doing - sports or politics,” Wilk wrote on his page on social networks.
Earlier, the International Chess Federation (FIDE) said that Duda could receive punishment for the incident if Khismatullin demands it.
