An exciting shame

Aleksandar Randjelovic

How the Exchange French becomes more exciting (my OTB model game)

OpeningStrategyOff topic
"Playing the Exchange French is a shame" (Mikhail Tal)

Tal's opinion on the Exchange variation of the French defense is mentioned after playing his own "Exchange" against his arch-nemesis - Viktor Korchnoi, when he needed only a draw as white. However, his opinion is shared by great majority of chess players who respect chess as a logical game. It means that the game has its own rules, and principles, and if one goes against them - the other side is rewarded. By playing the Exchange French white is showing great disrespect towards space advantage, bad bishop strategy and center-control - everything (wrong) done in just one move.

However, White gets a free move after trading on d5 (3. exd5 exd5). After all, the Petroff's main line looks like the Exchange French, considering the pawn structure.

Long story short, this is my new video that speaks for itself (Hans Niemann would use those words), showing how interesting this opening can be. The only condition is that at least one of the players make a mistake. Or better - more then one.
