Why does lichess and chess.com prefer englund gambit as a blunder?
Well I was analyzing one of my englund gambit games, and well lichess and chess.com prefer it as a "blunder"Well when I asked my friend he said " it is a downright loss of material" Well thats what gambits are though.
I still wonder why?
It is a great move for me- I won many games
Completely logical move- d4 e5- https://lichess.org/study/J4t0g3wd/KwM90GQ6
Please ignore my mistakes- its what I face
Anyways I wouldn't pay to much attention to the engine's evaluation of openings. If it's playable to you, then that's all that matters. Especially at lower rating levels, many openings that are pretty unsound with correct play can still win a lot of games.
That said, I love seeing people play the Englund against me. There's basically only one or two lines that people ever play, so it's very easy to memorize the correct moves to avoid the main trap and end up in a very strong position as White.
With that I research everyday for a reason-
Edited-The problem with the Englund Gambit is that most players as White have no idea how to keep an advantage, and so Black gets away with murder. In reality, the line sux for Black. Black has some unsound gambit lines like 3...f6 or 3...Bc5 followed by ...f6, but assuming the main line, 1.d4 e5?! 2.dxe5 Nc6 3.Nf3 Qe7, White has a couple of options:
A) Hold on to the pawn with 4.Qd5 and Black lacks the compensation for the pawn with best play. 4...b6 and 4...h6 are both insufficient, so after 4...f6 5.exf6 Nxf6 6.Qb3 d5 either 7.Bf4 or 7.Bg5 give White the advantage (Black gets sufficient comp after 7.Nc3 Bd7! with the idea of ...Na5)
B) Take advantage of Black's lack of development and return the pawn with either 4.Nc3 Nxe5 5.e4, deeming Black's Queen awkwardly placed, or else 4.Bf4 Qb4+ 5.Bd2 (or 5.Nc3 as 5...Qxf4? 6.Nd5!, but 5...Qxb2 6.Bd2 transposes) Qxb2 6.Nc3! Bb4 (6...Nb4 7.Nd4 c6 8.a4 and Black's busted) 7.Rb1 Qa3 and now 8.Nd5! instead of 8.Rb3 and White is in the driver's seat.
P.S. The pic is not of the Englund gambit tell me what it is in the forum
