Chess960x960: The Ultimate Theory Equalizer
A webpage to evaluate and search random Chess960x960 positionsHello chess fans! I've developed a webpage to help controllably explore Chess960x960, a variant that independently randomizes White and Black’s back ranks, breaking symmetry and offering 921,600 unique starting positions.
Why Chess960x960?
1. The Ultimate Theory Equalizer
Even though Chess960 (Fischer Random) removes opening book theory, it still has only 960 positions—allowing some memorization. Chess960x960 eliminates this issue entirely, making preparation useless and focusing solely on raw chess skills.
2. True Asymmetry - Resembling Real Battles
In traditional chess and Chess960, both players start symmetrically. Here, every game is asymmetric, meaning you can't just copy your opponent's moves. Each player must adapt to their own strengths and weaknesses—just like in real-life battles where armies are never identical.
3. Every Game is Unique
With over 900,000 starting positions, you could play an entire lifetime without repeating the same setup. This ensures that creativity, adaptability, and on-the-spot calculation are the primary skills required.
How the Tool Works
- Generate a random position and get Stockfish evaluation to ensure it's balanced and playable.
- Search for positions that match your desired balance (e.g., -+, ±, =, etc.), so you can control the kind of position you want to play.
