I'm absolutely loving the Chessnut Air chess set!
I finally got the Chessnut Air electronic bluetooth chess set I've been eyeing, and am absolutely loving it!
With this board and set, I can play the computer or anyone online around the world on a physical 3D set instead of simply icons on the screen--and that makes a big difference! If someone plays only online, then tries to play over-the-board in real life, it can be a bit of an adjustment whether they realize it or not. But with an electronic board like this, problem solved, AND we can still play anyone anywhere, right at home!
The Chessnut Air has its own app with its own computer to challenge of course, but can also seamlessly connect to both my Chess.com and Lichess.org accounts to play. I can play any of the Chess.com or Lichess.org bots, or any friends or random opponents worldwide.
There are several different options for electronic bluetooth chessboards like this now, but the Chessnut Air is the most realistic-looking. Where other sets have a vividly more silicon and plastic appearance, the pieces have a realistic wood look even though they are plastic as well. The board itself is solid wood with a plastic wood-looking top completing the illusion. The electronic chips inside each piece all work great, and unlike other sets it knows exactly which piece is which--even between a white piece and a black piece of the same type! I'm super impressed! The Chessnut Air is a 13" board, and comes with 2 extra queens.
I've found it works best via the bluetooth connection with my tablet and mobile phone (I have Android), but the bluetooth with my laptop (Windows 10) doesn't want to communicate with the board unless I simply plug the board directly into the PC with the included USB cord, then it works just fine! For PC you also need to download the Windows or Apple version app from the Chessnut website.
I highly recommend this set to anyone! Chessnut frequently runs promos and coupons, so keep an eye on their social media pages and catch a good deal. They're also coming out with (or just came out with?) an even larger board called the Chessnut Pro!
