The fifth leg of the Grand Chess Tour, the Sinquefield Cup will be held in Saint Louis, Missouri, US, from September 1st to 11th, featuring top Grandmasters. The total prize fund is $350,000.

The format is a 10-player Round-robin with a time control of 90 minutes for the first 40 moves, then an additional 30 minutes for the rest of the game, with a 30-second increment from move one.

If 2 players are tied for the first place, 2 rapid games with a time control of 15 minutes with a 10-second increment from move one will be played.
If the players are still tied, Armageddon will be played: white has 5 minutes and black 4 minutes, 2-second increment starts at move 61. If the game ends in a draw, black is considered the winner.

GM Magnus Carlsen stated in a Tweet that he withdrew from the 2022 Sinquefield Cup.
Tony Rich, Executive Director of the Saint Louis Chess Club, declared that Carlsen's results in Rounds 1-3 will be annulled and the games in Rounds 4-9 wouldn't occur.
