GM Adrien Demuth

I am Adrien Demuth, a French Grandmaster and FIDE Trainer, now representing Switzerland internationally 🇨🇭.

I became a Grandmaster in 2015 and have been a professional chess player and coach for more than 10 years. I am currently based in Switzerland and teach online in both English and French.

Alongside my playing career, I have coached more than 100 students, worked with the French National Teams, written three chess books and created three Chessable courses.

I became an International Master in 2011 and a Grandmaster in 2015, reaching a peak FIDE rating of 2562.

Among my best results, I defeated former World Champion Viswanathan Anand at the Gibraltar Masters in 2016, won the Paris Championship in 2013, and have competed for many years in strong international tournaments and European team leagues.

I am a three-time Swiss Team Champion with SK Riehen, in 2023, 2024 and 2025, and I now represent Switzerland internationally.

My experience as an active Grandmaster allows me to bring practical tournament knowledge directly into my lessons.

I have been coaching for more than 10 years and have worked with over 100 students, from beginners and ambitious juniors to players rated above 2300.

I have worked with the French National Teams since 2016, including as a coach of the French Youth National Team and as a trainer for the French senior team.

My experience includes preparing players for national, European and World Championships, as well as long-term individual coaching. I hold the FIDE Trainer title and the French DEFFE 2 coaching qualification.

I adapt my teaching to each student's level, personality, goals and available training time.

I am the author of three opening books published by Thinkers Publishing:

I previously worked as Editor-in-Chief at Thinkers Publishing and have extensive experience creating structured chess training material.

Outside chess, I have a background in mathematics and education, which strongly influences the structured and analytical way I teach.

My strongest areas are opening preparation, strategic understanding and endgames.

As an author of three opening books and three Chessable courses, I have extensive experience building complete opening repertoires and, more importantly, explaining the ideas behind them rather than simply asking students to memorize variations.

I also particularly enjoy endgames and positional chess.

As a coach, my main strength is diagnosis: understanding why a player is losing points, identifying the few areas that will make the biggest difference, and creating a clear training plan around them.

Lessons can cover every aspect of chess: game analysis, calculation, strategy, openings, endgames, tournament preparation and competitive mindset.

I start by studying your games in order to understand your playing style, strengths, recurring mistakes and areas with the greatest potential for improvement.

From there, we define priorities together and build a personalized training plan. Depending on your needs, we can work on game analysis, calculation, positional play, openings, endgames or tournament preparation.

Lessons take place online using Microsoft Teams and Lichess Studies. Everything we work on is saved in your private Lichess Study, so you can review the material whenever you want.

My goal is not simply to give you more chess information. It is to help you understand your own game better, make better decisions at the board and become a more independent player.
