About me
Playing experience
As a player, I have represented Sri Lanka at numerous FIDE tournaments, including the World Chess Olympiad. I have also participated in various events as a youth player, including the World Youth Championships in 2005 and 2008, among others. Additionally, I have competed in over 50 Grandmaster tournaments worldwide.
Teaching experience
I began coaching as a supplementary income while at university. However, after a few years, I realised that my true passion lies in chess, which led me to seriously pursue coaching and become a more ambitious player. As a player, I feel I have reached a plateau and have sought to understand the reasons behind this stagnation. The primary factor seems to be the unstructured training I received as a young player.
After recognising this issue, I realised that, even with talent, structured training and appropriate guidance are essential, particularly for young players. Consequently, I am working diligently to identify effective methods for developing strong chess players in my country. As a result, I have successfully nurtured many players from Sri Lanka, enabling them to challenge stronger chess nations.
