Hi! I'm Emmanuel Jiménez García, an International Master from Costa Rica, 3-time National Champion and holder of 3 GM norms.
I've been coaching for more than 7 years, working with competitive juniors, adult improvers and tournament players from different countries.
Most of my coaching starts from your own games. I want to understand why you made a decision, not simply show you the engine move. We identify the recurring patterns that are actually costing you points and turn them into focused training.
A good place to start is my Personal Chess Assessment & Training Plan. Send me your username, goals and 3–5 recent serious games. I review them before our session so we can focus on the positions and habits that matter most.
Students may receive a short Lesson Brief after sessions with the main conclusions, priorities and next steps. Depending on what we are working on, I may also assign personalized homework, Lichess Studies, calculation exercises, opening work or LearningChess material.
The goal is to create continuity between lessons: play → analyze → identify patterns → train → apply → review again.
If you'd like to work together, send me a message here on Lichess or learn more about the coaching process:

Teaching experience
I've coached chess for 7+ years, both online and in person, with students from the United States, Canada, Australia, Europe and Latin America.
I don't follow exactly the same program with every student.
Usually, we begin with your own games and identify the recurring decisions that are holding you back. Sometimes the biggest issue is calculation. Sometimes it's playing too quickly, choosing the wrong plans, poor opening understanding, or not recognizing critical moments.
Once we understand the problem, the training becomes much more specific.
My goal is not only to help you play better moves during our lessons, but to help you develop a stronger thinking process when you're playing on your own.

Teaching methodology
A large part of my coaching is based on questions.
Instead of immediately telling you what you should have played, I want to understand what you were thinking:
What did you notice?
What candidate moves did you consider?
What were you afraid of?
What did you think your opponent wanted?
That allows us to work on the thinking process behind the move, rather than only correcting the move itself.
Depending on the student, our sessions can include:
Deep analysis of your own games and critical moments
Calculation and visualization training
Candidate moves and practical decision-making
Middlegame structures and strategic planning
Practical opening work connected to typical middlegames
Endgames and tournament preparation
Personalized exercises and training positions
After the lesson, I keep the work connected. Students may receive a Lesson Brief summarizing the key ideas and priorities, together with homework or follow-up material when useful. This can include a shared Lichess Study, calculation positions, opening notes, game-review tasks or LearningChess exercises.
The objective is not to collect more chess information. It is to build better habits that appear in your actual games.
