GM Harry Grieve

I am Harry Grieve, 25 years old and England's most recent Grandmaster. I hold a degree in mathematics from Cambridge University and currently work as a chess professional in London.

I won the British Championship in 2022 and spent the next four years playing professionally to achieve the grandmaster title. Having recently been on this improvement journey myself from being rated below 2300 at age 20 to becoming a grandmaster at 25 is what allows me to give the best insights as a coach on your own personal journey.

I have given private lessons to students of all ages and levels, and additionally I work as the openings analyst for the England national team. I also write openings-focused articles for ChessPublishing and ChessBase Magazine.

We will make a personalised plan after an initial lesson to determine your strengths and weaknesses. Each session has a clear focus with homework provided afterwards, and we will agree on both short-term and long-term goals to work towards, which are essential in my experience to keep motivation whilst still enjoying the journey along the way.
