CM Ask Amundsen

I am 21 years old and i study Journalism at Oslo Metropolitan University, and have also studied English at The University of Oslo.

I have played chess since i was 7 years old. At 16, when my rating was around 1700 FIDE, i started at the chess program at TTG (Telemark Toppidrett Gymnas) and worked with GM Kjetil Lie and IM Espen Lie. In the following 3 years my rating improved to around 2100.
My achievments include:
-Norwegian national champion U19 (2024)
-2324 classical performance at Fagernes International Open 2026

-Several wins against GMs and IMs in OTB blitz, including renowned GM Simen Agdestein.

I have coached at various levels for over 10 years. Most of my experience is with kids in group lessons at several different youth chess clubs. Some of my students have reached a level of 1800-2000 FIDE.

From my coaches i have learned to become a dynamic and fighting player, and i have a lot of experience in playing uncompromising openings and always playing for a win with both colours. As a coach, my focus is on having fun with chess, and making a genuine connection to my students so that i can understand what they need to work on the most. My philosophy is that ambitous players should not only work on their weaknesses, but also embrace their strenghts.

We can agree on the first lesson being free. There we can play a training game we can analyse after, letting me to get to know you as a player and as a person. Later, we can work on openings, analysing games, endgames, positional excercises and so on. If wanted, i can give homework and be available for contact in between lessons. I have a collection of chess books and courses that i work with and can share with my students.
