I find it a bit wild that the cutoff date for African signups is the same day as the blogpost was posted. Is this correct?

aww I see what you mean, I'm guessing it was just in time, but I agree a bit earlier would have been better!! :)

Also it has been advertised on the FIDE site for ages, if you wish to play in the Queen's then it's probably worth contacting FIDE, as I believe they might be flexible with the closing date:)) [within reason] For the Princess' there is still plenty of time to enter :))

It seems to me that this tournament registration system can be abused - anybody can fill out the Google form with any FIDE ID and lichess id. Are there any measures to validate that the person registering is actually who they say they are?
Additionally, how can anyone prove that the person playing the game is actually the player associated with that FIDE ID?

I'm not qualified as it were (I was listening to MassiveAttack when I made this account xD ) - but it just felt like an oversight in comms/poor practise to announce this with a potential time scramble for users (since it was also posted on the evening of the 22nd of March in Africa) who are not checking the FIDE site but get their info from Lichess.

Lols don't give people ideas!!! :(( No seriously, I guess some very sad dubious players might try be tempted to try to join using fake information on-line!!:(( Especially when there are prizes involved!! But I've played in most of them in previous years and have never noticed anything dubious :)) FIDE must have strict proceduces in place and players have to be on a zoom call with a camera for all of the finals
