The rules for unrated games are the same as rated, apart from losing on purpose (only allowed in unrated). If you want to use an engine, or get advice from a coach while playing, you could create a study (https://lichess.org/study/mine/hot) and share it with your opponent. Since it's not a game, there are no rules about cheating.
But the ban might be unrelated to the tournament. In any case, lichess.org/appeal

Help the chess players discover how vast chess is by showing them more than one place to play and learn. When coaching, lead by example, and explain why it's wrong to use assistance when competing. Using assistance is as bad as using the wrong tool for the job, like using a car to move a ton of dirt, when you could be using a truck instead. The chess site is not setup to allow assistance during tournament matches, as it violates their core principles (ideologies and TOS) and the spirit of competition.
Since you need an engine to guide your students, than experiment with the purpose-built training aids of Lucas Chess. The students will surely enjoy discovering other means of learning chess.

If you want to allow cheating in your tournaments, the players will need to use BOT accounts.
If you don't want to allow cheating, then why don't want cheaters to be banned? They're cheaters, nobody should have to play against them.
If you're claiming that innocent people are getting banned for no reason...it's very unlikely, but again, lichess.org/appeal.
