Re: HIARCS ELO rating

Post by herO » Sun Apr 24, 2022 10:51 am

Since 2012, I have established several accounts on the chess game server Lichess.com. I have one of my own account where I do not use any chess software and I also have other accounts where all moves are played by the Hiarcs engine, which is set on a certain level of difficulty.

I was wondering how other people would play against the Hiarcs engine and if they would like the style of play. I'm not getting any bad messages that someone suspects me of cheating. Only once someone was suspicious in a tournament, and then the great Lichess anti-cheat program judged the game to be okay and clean (that is, the player DID NOT USED ANY chess engine assistance during the game and even Stockfish engine showed tons of mistakes and blunders by Hiarcs engine and those mistakes and blunders were not found by a strong human player). Hiarcs defeats even strong players in a way that is believable. A lot of strong human players were able to defeat Hiarcs engine even on higher difficulty!

Very often, the human player has a very advantageous position, which player misjudges and often ignores the mistakes made by the Hiarcs engine, and the Hiarcs engine makes similar mistakes. Chessmaster and Komodo chess engines cannot simulate human chess at all. Komodo is trying to improve in this regard, but the result is very poor and it plays very inhuman chess, which only resembles computer chess with wierd computer moves.

There are only a few chess engines that can simulate human chess well - Hiarcs, Shredder 12 (Shredder 13 is horrible) and the Rodent chess engine. I played a lot of games on the Lichess server on other accounts and the overall opinion of the players is that they enjoy the game against "me" and like to play against me. This view confirmed to me that this is not just a placebo effect on my part, but really Hiarcs has a very interesting and aggressive chess style and it is not just my opinion.

I like that Hiarcs can more or less well simulate the "behavior" that a human player does. The chess program does not always play immediately, and when the rating function "detects" that Hiarcs is losing, it starts to think and "combine" moves and you can see in the engine log how the moves change very quickly and Hiarcs starts thinking for a long time. It simulates the player's behavior "oh, omg, I made the mistake, what should I do now". Hiarcs also changes the player's strength well according to the time control. The more time you make available to the Hiarcs engine, the better it plays and the less time it has, the stronger it plays.

For example, the Komodo chess engine at limited levels of difficulty still plays the same regardless of whether I set the timer to 1 minute or 10 minutes, so its chess strength is still the same, which is wrong. Hiarcs can also simulate behavior when a human player starts to panic and make more mistakes when he runs out of time because he can't keep up and has to play fast.

Hiarcs engine played on the Lichess server against several players with a verified identity and the title FM and IM. Hiarcs played a lot of nice games against them, many of them were lost, but also won against those players. I also created several accounts on the chess24.com server, where I bought premium memberships and the Hiarcs engine played against several international masters and grandmasters! I liked the statement of chess supergrandmaster Jan Gustafsson, who liked the game, praised the opponent's chess knowledge. Jan Gustafsson defeated the chess engine Hiarcs at the level of 2500 ELO!!! It was a fierce fight, but professional Jan Gustafsson won. Jan Gustafsson did not suspect my account of cheating and also no other players who watched the banter blitz live.

Chess expert Kingcrusher has always claimed in his online streams that he is able to found out chess cheaters with 100% probabilities. I said to myself - challenge accepted. Kingscrusher played against Hiarcs Chess Engine twice and never once said his opponent used a chess engine! The first game was balanced and a beautiful positional game was played, in which Kingscrusher finally won thanks to a great tactical maneuver! I remember how Kingcrusher smiled, how he managed to overcame his opponent and had no idea that he was playing against a chess engine set to 2237 ELO!

cheating progresses but I hope anti-cheat systems also progress to detect it because I don't like cheaters, I like fairplay.

Chess sites must work to avoid cheaters.
Let me know if there is a forum where I can put information for cheat prevention work.

Assuming it's true (it could be someone with an active imagination), this isn't so bad.

Not that it happens often, but it's much worse when you're playing a human the same rating as you, they play badly, get a bad position, blunder a piece or two, then there's a pause where they don't move for a minute, then checkmate you in 5 moves.

As long as it's always a computer playing it wouldn't bother me.

If chess was my job, it probably would bother me...if I lost to the engine.

the article mentioned losing to a few streamers, it's bad that they played someone who makes a living playing chess, however, since the engine lost it's not so bad.

This is where the real players and the fun players seperate,
If your playing fun games, you can lose and not be bothered.

absolutely, which is why I said If chess was my job, it probably would bother me, and it's bad that they played someone who makes a living playing chess.

to me there's a difference between a human turning on an engine when they're losing and winning, and an engine that's always an engine and always the same strength.

Why do you take chess on lichess so seriously? I'm going to guess you don't make money playing chess on lichess.
