I’d really like to improve and am considering coaching. I would appreciated any thoughts from players around my level who have tried a coach or are currently being coached. Thank you

Go ahead and spend your money if you want...but you really don't need coaching (just more practice and study). I know what I'm talking about too: I never had a coach.

To coach or not to coach. That is the question.

My rating shot up more quickly when I started teaching myself chess, compared to when I took lessons from a coach.

A coach is beneficial... for the coach.

I am being coached by a player whose peak was 2050fide i think. Currently high 1800s. His rates are quite cheap. Around 0.40 USD per hour. I think its worth it. Afterall he has a lot of experience. Although some of his thyory might be out dated but it really dosen't matter around my level (1599 fide). My class-fellows are around 800-1400 otb stregth. Although you are segneficantly higher rated then me online. But i'll take fide as referance and see you as 'players around my level'. But i don't know your irl strength. If your otb stregnth is lets say more then 200 points lower then aligible fide, which is 1400-200=1200 (I am saying it like that beacause if i said 1200 fide some people would probably teach me 1400 is the lowest possible fide rating) I think taking some free youtube lessons will be more reasonable. Specially if you understand english well. But if you have more otb skills I think getting a coach is up to you. If you feel that you can go competetive with chess and you have the passion then do it. And if you are above/around 1500 fide skills. Then take a coach. More prefereable if you are young.
I hope this answers your question.
