Go as a pawn and tell your opponent you wish to be promoted.
To seriously answer the question, most OTB events have no dress code. FIDE events do have one at the top level. Carlsen was famously forfeited a game for showing up in jeans but after he threatened to withdraw FIDE relaxed their rules.

There is a dress code.
No coming to the tournament naked or wearing a swimsuit. (That would be terrifying if someone actually did that lol)

Yeah, the only dress code I believe FIDE should have is, like, indecent exposure laws.
Pink fur slippers, kittens themed.

Wide-leg magenta trousers. A dark blue belt with a gold or silver buckle.

An orange shirt and a pocket watch. If you get cold, put on your shoulders a bomber jacket with sewn-on patches from an ice hockey team or hard rock festivals.
An AC/DC baseball cap.

So I won a chess tournament because I was wearing too much gear and my opponent was staring at my questionable costume?
Or is the TD gonna kick me out because I am a distraction to others?
