Reasons for why they didn't do that:
Many people might have inappropriate pictures and mods are already overwhelmed without this so we have flairs instead

It serves as a universal visual anchor that tells users the menu is interactive. Removing the icon completely would ruin the website's layout consistency and make navigation less intuitive for players. It ultimately remains as a purely functional placeholder to display online status indicators and maintain a clean user interface.

If you like the green pawn wesbite so much, just use that.
Also the green pawn website didn't use an 'easy' filter—they just have millions of dollars in premium subscription revenue (Which lichess will never do to you) to pay for massive server costs and a bunch of moderators (More than lichess's because this website has volunteer mods not paid ones).
Lichess is a 100% free, non-profit site, so instead of wasting donation money trying to look over thousands of user images, they spend their budget on giving everyone unlimited free puzzles and master-level analysis tools.

why are you calling it the gren pawn plus cant they just remove that blank icon entirely just keep teh username thingy firstly taht might make lichess faster because less lines i guess and also cuse then its not so annoying
