How about adding a "Currently playing" icon? It will light yellow when the player is playing at the board at the moment. It will be easier this way, and maybe people who want to write something to the player will see that he is playing and wait until the player finishes playing.

It's a good idea. However, I think many players are simply already accustomed to the current design, and then it might be a bad idea. If the majority (as is the case now) is in favor of this idea, then that's fine. I'm for it!
