The game of Chess960 still puzzles me. I always think king safety is paramount: When I overlook it, I get attacked too much. However, Chess960 is designed to allow counterplay.
I played it too safe and reached a passive position.

Here I had played 16...Nd7?? But I had misclicked, intending Qd7. However, I didn't click that either because the position was lost.
As it turns out, my opponent got my queen and figured the game was over. Later he even won another exchange.
However, my pieces were all positioned against his unsafe king! He expected ...gxf3?? While my bishop was still on d3, because then his queen could take with check.
Because of this "hope" chess, my opponent could not create any more play and what hoped would happen to him never did, but something more insidious.
