Who controls the Lichess YouTube account and can you check their pulse :)

It seems like Lichess is constantly missing the boat by not utilizing their YouTube account. Aside from the monetization potential, it is important for driving people & patrons towards this platform.

Lichess is in the top 2 of all Chess platforms on Earth but where would they rank in terms of chess content on YT?

I'd suggest it wouldn't take much, just regular, varied content that appeals to a wide range of players within the channels 'brand' & a little audience engagement. Lichess is sitting on so much potential content, it seems a waste to not maximize that resource.

PEACE!!!

PS I do appreciate all the good content so far from team Lichess, it's just they need to play the social media game like they play chess. Beastmode on!

I appreciate your enthusiasm. I also suspect you're greatly underestimating how much time, effort, and resources would be required to successfully do what you're suggesting, even assuming it is a wise course of action.

But if you're willing to finance such an undertaking, I have a link for you: https://lichess.org/patron This is how Lichess funds itself. It really changes the equation.

@MentalFugues Maybe you're overestimating how much work it takes to run a YT channel with an already established brand?
Maybe just giving people the patron link isn't always the best way, as a persons time is also valuable. Even a few web designers/content creators who could spare a few hours a week to do this stuff, could be more valuable than if those people just gave a donation.

A double-edged sword I would suggest. Social media advertising (that's what a youtube channel amounts to really) attracts people who have played little or no chess before and are just dabbling, because existing chess enthusiasts already know about Lichess.

That can be a good thing if it encourages lots of new people to take up chess. But it will be a very small proportion of dabblers who actually do that. A much bigger section will be using the site resources without really taking it seriously. And I'm guessing that a worryingly high percentage of those people might cause the cheating detection team to have to work overtime.

@Brian-E I'm against all types of cheating content regardless of how popular it is. Promotion of the ethos of Lichess is important, but what is Lichess without funding? It's illogical to ask for donations but not try to use social media as it's a potentially massive revenue stream.

I understand people don't want any invaders to this nice little club, but exposing Lichess to the masses could help this nice little club get bigger & better. Most casuals will stick to chess .com as there's less chess going on over there
