I have thought about this many times through the years, a flag is not the most unambiguous symbol for resigning (impressed with the chess sets so sure the team can think of something...maybe a toppled king?). Although at a time it was used to signal admittance of defeat in a battle, even then the idea was that it would be the start of negotiations towards eventual release, meaning it was in fact rather a kind of peace offer. Of course it is also used to signify the start of a race.

I don't know... the version on the left I wouldn't really associate with resignation, and once I saw certain rude gesture in the version on the right, I can't unsee it. :-)

I like the version on the left, a sinking king. It could work with a delay before activating, a fun online feature
