What do you guys think about a feature of automatic winning after a long period of no movement

It's incredibly annoying when playing a game of Rapid(10+5) if someone just stalls and does nothing.
It happens a lot and I don't know if they do it by purpose or not, but either way after some amount of time it should be just an automatic win. no?

My idea, which I posted in a different thread, was to have a button that pops up after 1 minute or 10% of your remaining time (whichever's longer) that says "click here or you resign" with a countdown. It comes back after another minute. That way, at least the ragequitter has to stay and look at his hopeless position until his time runs out.

Have none of you seen the "claim victory" button that comes up when your opponent genuinely leaves the game ? If the opponent hasn't left the game and they are simply taking time for a move, just wait because when you signed up to play a 10+5, the expectation is that you have about 25 minutes at hand to play that game. If you think you can "blitz out" 5 rapid games in 25 mins then its the problem with your expectations. Not with the opponent.

Yes, and we already have that. After 10 minutes plus 5 seconds per move, you will automatically win.
And more seriously, often when you see their time counting down, they see yours counting down because one of you is lagging badly or lost connection, and there is no reliable way to detect that on the client.

I have a solution to this:
Lets get some device that measures the time players take per move or for the whole game.
Then, before the game, the players agree that should either player take more than the agreed time per move or for the whole game then they lose....

Oh wait we already have that....

You are not in control of your opponent's time.
Your opponent has the right to use their time however they like. You both agreed to play a 10+5 game, so therefore you must deal with the issues that arise from that format.

OP was referring to a different problem. Some players are petty enough that they keep the tab open so their status stays green and just let the time run down to 0. The claim victory button only shows up if they disconnect or (I think) close the tab.

Nobody's arguing that it's against the rules of chess to use all your time on one move, but it is poor sportsmanship. Hence, my "click here or you resign" idea, which allows someone to take their time to think in a complicated position, but a sore loser will have to stay and babysit the game just like his opponent. I think being reminded every minute of how badly you got rocked is a fair punishment for poor sportsmanship, and would make the wait more enjoyable for the winner.
