It no longer says “stockfish 17.1” and now just “WASM”

Sorry the patch was blocking more devices than intended. It should now allow you to use SF18 if your iOS version is before 26.2. For those still on 26.2 your best bet is still to wait until 26.3 drops.

Apple has shipped a broken version of safari on iOS/macOS 26.2 that breaks the lichess browser implementation of stockfish (and a lot of other web apps as well). Apple has fixed it but you will only see that fix in 26.3. Until Apple releases that update (it could be months), all users on the latest iOS versions can only support a simpler stockfish engine.

If you're on MacOS then you can use firefox/chrome without issues. Unfortunately, because of the way Apple runs browsers on iOS, you're stuck with Safari/WebKit no matter what browser you use.

So I cant get it back until Apple updates?

Yeah, and maybe what @ItsGam3Tyme is true so maybe you gotta wait for the update.
I have researched about the period of releases of iOS updates and its saying every September annually. So, just wait for this September.
