I don't have a best friend. I'm not saying this can't change. I don't assign ranks to my friends. If a friend turns out to be my best friend (for any number of reasons), so be it. I suppose I should further explain myself. Well, I have, at various times in my life, had someone I considered "my best friend." Unfortunately, one of my earliest "best friends" (I was in elementary school) treated me very poorly in the end. He was in the gifted program, and possibly considered himself the superior human being. I suppose I am partly guilty of being treated so poorly, as, I did not know how to stand up for myself. I also thought a lot of him--I didn't worship the ground he walked on, but I considered him my best friend. I regret not having had the wisdom to more wisely pick my friends (in all previous phases of my life).

It has occurred to me that my best friend (hypothetically speaking) might not consider me her/his best friend. People are different and have different needs and wants.
