Would you happen to know if your opponent is familiar with the Caro-Kann? If so, 7... h5?! is probably a bad idea especially since they are "a stronger player". 7... c5 or 7... Ng6 are better. The former uncramps the position while the latter allows you to develop your bishop and castle.
However, I am not an expert in the 3. Bf5 line and have only played it as black a handful of times.

7...h5? instead of 7...c5 looks bad. White should play 10 Nf1 intending 11 Bg5 instead of 10 c4?. The idea is to trade of white's bad bishop Bc1 for black's good bishop Bf8.
7...c5 is fine for black
