What music reaches you ?

I blame my parents for wiring my brain for country. When I was very young, I listened to country, because my parents controlled the radio dial. Later as an older kid, when I got my own radio dial, I of course started listening to the local pop/rock station. As a young adult, I tried a few classical and jazz albums, but those genres never really clicked for me. (I did like George Benson and Al Jarreau.) Although I like 60s and 70s rock and pop, I always get drawn back to country. Lately, I've been trying to branch out into other flavors of country: bluegrass, western swing, country rock, outlaw country, etc.

I also enjoy finding albums of struggling country artists who haven't hit super-stardom. Some could even be classified as failures, but they can still be interesting. Some of the singers who worked their way up through the honky-tonk bars are really talented. I just have one question: How country are ya?

Theres a lot of good stuff out there but Hank Williams Sr. and Merle Haggard are really good imo

I can't argue with that. Also, the more I listen to Buck Owens and Waylon Jennings, the more I like them.

Is it heresy to admit that I was never much of a Johnny Cash fan? :-)

Tchaikovsky and all romantic music in general; Some pop songs such as Alan Walker's, Teresa Teng (I can't relate with love lyrics but her voice...and the instrumentals...)

I like all of it - I am not kidding. Of course, I was, from a young age, into punk, hardcore, and metal. That's my bread & butter. However, I also like electronic music and, well, anything, like I said. I have started listening to a lot more popular, easy listening stuff since I got married and had a kid and I can't just put my computer on shuffle and listen to extreme music all day...

Do I use a streaming service and listen to something like jazz, country, or 80s & 90s pop hits.

Because I am older and focus on very specific genres, I was not really exposed much to what the kids were doing with more extreme rock music in the late 2000s and beyond.

I recently saw some funny IG videos of "Crabcore," and remembered these funny looking characters with scene sweeps and anime hair were making a weird sort of emo metalcore... Out of pure curiosity, I looked up some of this music and, whaddya know, it slaps.

This track is now 16 years old, lol, but it is an example of extreme rock music I was just never familiar with due to age appealing to me. I am sure there are newer, fresher tracks out there, but that is what I have for you today...

And one of my other old guy friends who war a roadie in the 2010s for a band that did this style of music referred to it as the 'last subculture' because these guys essentially were never replaced by any sort of recognizable torch bearers of rock music. Of course young peiople still become punks and metalheads, but it's just different now...

People just arent as cool as we were. What can I say?!

But hey, I know it's alive in many countries.

I've heard that Jakarta, Indonesia now has the biggest punk scene in the world, and maybe in the 2030s that honor will go to New Delhi.
