In real life me and my friends and family play a chess variant we call "simple" chess. I thought it was more prevalent than it is because apparently it isn't on here either.
It's played on a 7x7 board, no queens to start with. Pawns can only move one square. The setup is R-N-B-K-N-B-R from left to right for both perspectives: thereby making the board asymmetrical to start with, making it more likely to end decisively. all other rules are the same.
I would love to know if others have heard of this mode, and if it would be possible to add to the site?

No and no. Seems like just another drop in the vast ocean of countless variants

Never heard of it, and wouldn't want to play it.
Also, using a different board size makes it especially unattractive.
I would say the chances of adding this weird variant is zero. If there were more variants added (which I think is currently not the case), I think this still wouldn't make it onto the list.

I've played lots of different variants with my friends, and I would certainly love to see them here but lichess isn't adding any more variants AT ALL (it seems)
Rate this one:
Everything's the same, but one of the 8 pawns is a queen, each player chooses their "secret" queen, checkmate or the pawn-queen can capture the king. Its more of a fun variant and thus not something really serious (but then again, how did Atomic end up here?)
