With no action against Israel genocide, this blockade seems like mere posturing.

Nothing in this World is for free, not the internet or chess sites. Even the ones that claim to be free and you don't have to pay for. Of course this is entirely political ... and as others have mentioned very selective on what qualifies as requiring punitive action (and this is punitive) and what doesn't. I don't want my favourite chess site to be deciding for me what is right and wrong and making judgements on my behalf as a user. I look to other places for that.

But it's free and a virtual monopoly with chess.com. In a sense lichess have greatly assisted chess.com by eliminating all competition such as the icc. Who will pay for a service they can get for free. So what to do. Nothing to be done. The power resides in those who run this hugely popular site. This comment will likely be deleted or mass voted down:).

Regardless of any past issues, I 'd like to be able to watch the U.S. Chess Championships on Lichess. Surely there are better solutions to address whatever concerns exist with USCHESS that don't end up penalizing chess fans who simply want to enjoy the event.

It's actually a very old and hackneyed means of gaining power over people/groups. Like the bad man in the car with sweeties for the kiddies. Offer something for free, no strings attached. Once you have eliminated all or almost all competition, wield your power and influence over this community in a way that was impossible before, to push political and social engineering agendas.
Always under the guise of taking the moral high ground when in fact nothing could be further from the truth.

The internet is one rinse and repeat of that read Google, Facebook etc etc. it's always the same. I remember when there were lots of search engines and Google was the new kid on the block. I remember when there were lots of chess paying sites and lichess/chess.com were the new kids. You have to take your hat off to those driving these unethical social engineering agendas - it works a 'treat' for them. It turns out people are almost as easily programmed as the average house pet. Even though I personally can see through these agendas like pane of glass I cannot do anything and most people simply cannot because it requires a certain level of self-education which is hard to come by.

Have I written enough to encourage a Saul Alinsky style response. Mockery is a powerful weapon.
