What happened to the forums?

@Mrchess78 said in #10:

I feel that alot of people would like to chat more on the Forums and make Decent Threads, but don't, for fear of possibly offending anyone thesedays, so they avoid interesting subjects, and wisely settle for things like we mostly see. :).
It's a universal problem at the moment unfortunately. :).

What is this theory based on? Have 'controversial' threads been removed or something? I see people post controversial and political threads all the time. Infact, rarely a day goes by when someone isn't calling someone a fascist/nazi.

Edit: Just after I typed that, on another thread I'm reading, someone got their post deleted!

Those examples you give are not controversial, I'm speaking about real conversations, not observations about some politician or war lol.
And name calling is against terms and conditions, so I'm surprised those people you speak of are still on here. :).

Not sure what you mean. I didn't give any examples. Do you mean you don't find users on here calling other users fascist supporters/ nazi sympathisers controversial?

The examples you gave were the political example and the name calling example, the first I have already addressed and the second I have also already addressed. :).

Let me get this straight; you don't agree that some political threads can be controversial? Strange, but ok! But you do agree that name calling is controversial? And also you don't think either are controversial?

I'm confused.

I had never seen as many people of different generations to come together and chat as we did during the quarantine year. It was quite extraordinary

2023 and early 2024 were way better than late 2024 and 2025. And I suppose 2022 was best, but I wasn't on the forums back then :(
But why?
My theory is that the average Lichess user's age has decreased, leading to worse and worse quality in the forums.

Or maybe it's something else? Share your opinions here.
bro 2022 was the W year to be on lichess

what happened is that your mind started playing that trick on you, where you believe that the past was better than it actually was. it's called nostalgia bias and it's very common. people constantly long for "the good old times", when in reality the past was usually no better, if not worse.
