I'm running into this issue a lot. Basically majority of opponents only what to play 1 to 3 games of 30 second chess. I hit the rematch button and the guy disconnects so I have to cancel rematch and create a new game. Why not combine the two into 1 button instead of rematch it can be rematch/ create new game with same settings. If someone wants rematch only, maybe it could be a setting within lichess settings. As usual I hope I get a bunch of dislikes so I can laugh a bit.

Let me clarify so if opponent disconnects or doesn't accept the rematch within a reasonable time, say 1 minute, it'll automatically create a new game with the same settings, looking for a different opponent.
Another thing I just thought of, if opponents aborts there could be a setting to automatically create a new game looking for a different opponent.
In lichess settings it could be something like, automatically create a new game looking for different opponent when opponent does not respond to rematch, disconnects or aborts.

I prefer playing 3+2, but instead of waiting I might play 3+1 or 2+2 if someone in the lobby has chosen this time format.
That does not mean I want the next game to be 2+2.

That's why it would be a lichess setting so people that play the same time control over and over don't have to keep creating a new game when opponent disconnects, aborts or doesn't respond. But if you play different time controls every time then you simply opt out of the new setting.
Also assuming you hit the rematch button you are looking to play the same time control again , or else why would you hit the rematch button?
It would switch the rematch button to , rematch/find new opponent.
It would also help the annoyance when people abort the game, which isn't so rare.
Perhaps it could be two separate settings, one setting
-
if opponent aborts automatically seek for another opponent with same time control.
-
after hitting rematch button also find new opponent if rematch fails, with the same time control.

No you are wrong. Hitting the rematch button means I want to play the same player again.
If I had a choice I might want to play my preferred time format. I might even want to play rated/unrated.

This I don’t understand.

Why not with my default preferred time control?
And also, more importantly, what if you want to take a break? You would start a new game but you are not there (=abort your game) causing the next guy to automatically start a new game causing a loop that would create a rupture in the time/chess vacuum.

Again it would be optional. These new settings would be for people that just want to play chess with a certain time control that they like without caring if it's the same opponent or not.
If opponent aborts or disconnects it automatically searches for another opponent.
If opponent doesn't respond to a rematch or declines a rematch, it would automatically search for another opponent with the same time control.
Perhaps there could be a default preferred game / time control, but I think it's simpler to just keep the same time control as previous game.
This would not go on indefinitely, because when you are done playing chess you don't hit the rematch/ seek new opponent button.

click new opponent?
If the “light” next to your opponent is not green he/she has left the game, no need to wait one whole minute..

The idea is to create a setting for chess junkies like me that don't want to proactively look at the green light or wait for opponent to respond to a rematch, or hitting new opponent after an abort.
For example a rematch timeout could be 30 seconds, if opponent doesn't respond by 30 seconds it automatically finds another one. If opponent aborts a game it automatically finds a new one. If opponent declines a rematch it automatically finds a new one.
Basically instead of having to click buttons after every game I just want to play chess. Rematch if possible, otherwise anyone else.
Something like an autoseek slider that I can toggle under the chess board. Keep it active when I just want to play chess and not worry about aborts or people only wanting to play 1 or 2 games.
I should note that the extra clicks are way more noticable with 15 second or 30 second games which I mostly play. I can play 6 games before someone can finish a 3 minute game

Not to mention the eye strain of moving from the board screen to the seek screen all time time. Would be nice to have auto seek slider on the board and just stay on the board screen the entire time while playing and seeking, while the seek slider is positioned to autoseek.
