The 2026 Atomic Openings Championship (AOC26) is an invitational single-elimination tournament where players compete across various openings!

The AOC26 will occur in July and August.

Invitations will be sent to:
-The 2025 Lichess.org Atomic World Champion (Natso)
-The 2026 Chess.com Atomic World Champion (Wolfram_EP)
-The 2026 Atomic960 Swiss winner <Ongoing>
-The 2026 Atomic Theory Monthly Arena winners:
--February: daRK-spirit
--March: Yltca
--April: <April 4>
--May: <TBD>
--June: <TBD>

Players must:
-Have a valid Lichess account.
-Join the Atomic Theory Lichess team.
-Respond to JakeStateFarm's invitation by June 30.

If a player declines their invitation or fails to respond, then the trailing player will receive an invitation. (If Natso declines, then chrisrapid will be invited. If chrisrapid declines, then RandoomPlayer will be invited. And so on.) Player seeds will be as follows:

1 seed: 2025 Lichess.org Atomic World Champion
2 seed: 2026 Chess.com Atomic World Champion
3 seed: 2026 Atomic960 Swiss winner

The 1 seed will then pick their first round opponent from the 5 arena winners, thus making their opponent the 8 seed. The 2 seed will then pick their opponent from the remaining 4 arena winners, then the 3 seed from the remaining 3 arena winners. The two unpicked arena winners will be the 4 and 5 seeds.

Matches will consist of 10 rated atomic 3+1 games.
Both players get 5 games as White, and must choose a different starting move every time they are White. This does NOT reset if there are tiebreaks.

Players should communicate with UTC (Coordinated Universal Time). If players fail to schedule, then an organizer will work to ensure equal effort from both players. Players must post their scheduled match times and results in the “Scheduling and Results” forum thread.

Prizes:
-1st: 100 TC + 1 month of patron wings
-2nd: 50 TC + 1 month of patron wings
-3rd: 25 TC + 1 month of patron wings
-4th-8th: 10 TC
