How do they know though? 450 years ago plastic had not been invented yet.
How do they know that Pluto's orbital cycle takes 248 years when Pluto was discovered only 96 years ago?
They are just guessing,maybe throwing dice etc...
How do they know that earth is 4.6 billion years old when there's no humans around that time?
So if I ingest microplastics, will it prolong my life? ;-)

They used Galilio's law to extrapolate how much time it would take for Pluto to complete its orbit, given the available data.

They used radio-elements to estimate the age of the Earth.
