How is playing for hours "harmful?"

Playing hours at a time can be harmful but if you play less and like say 9 games a day it will strengthen your mental capabilities. but if you play like a hundred....thats not going to go well

You have to have a very strong mind and will power to survive chess and really love it as it can also intrude into your dreams if you love it, it's great. If you're not committed then just play a little for fun. Like I've said it should come with a physical and mental health warning . It can become very deep in your psyche. xxx

It's not chess fault, it's your fault that you don't know when to stop. Chess for the brain is like weight lifting for a bodybuilder.

@SOJB , I once had a dream with Kasparov and Carlsen discussing the improvement in my endgame studies... and they both agreed the endgame is the soul of chess. ( cool dream... I had been studying a lot of endgame at the time.)

Oh cool, I'm not the only one. Once, I dreamed that a king broke into my apartment and I defended by putting a rook across the room, checking him into the kitchen. I woke up before I could figure out how to checkmate him.

Chess could be beneficial for my brain, but Sudoku also can be, and I don't have to spend many hours playing it...
