Chess boards rotated by 90 degrees and occurrences in other sports

I was running a D&D adventure and ran into this; absolutely irked me beyond belief. Funny part is that they did it right in other versions of the book???

When the darts were brought up I expected a dartboard twisted 90 degrees, not that; nearly died of laughter. Thank you!
