A few days ago I worked on my RD for a few variants. First an atomic tourney : 0 out of 5 Then an anti-chess tourney 0 out of 11. I even lost against a U1100 player there. I tried but failed. Interesting to see that even the U1600 players are fast and good when they get a clear advantage.
That made me wonder whether there are chess coaches for variants. I am just curious if that is a thing or not at all
(btw, two GMs started playing crazyhouse on Lichess in the last 2 weeks. Both were above 2000+ rating within 20 games. Impressive)
The culture of the variants community is more of you get to know people and help out, and others help you out. There's a variants discord server with a channel for each variant that is active, and people there are super helpful, and you can readily get help if you're struggling with something.
