Reduce lag compensation?

Seriously: Lag compensation was ment to bring equality (matches can also be played with slower connections). But in fact it doesn't make players equal, if favors players with slower connection over players with excellent connection.

  1. If you play against someone with lag, it's sometimes hard to realise if the opponent is only brainlessly premoving, because one has to check the clock all the time

  2. ultra bullet matches take more time in total so it becomes rather a hyper match, so being very fast is not such a big advantage anymore

  3. it's somewhat ridiculous that both players can premove all the time and no time goes down from any clock because of the lag compensation.

So, lag compensation makes people with lag overpowered. Why not reducing it slightly to bring some balance? Maybe it could be already sufficient to reduce lag compensation of "good connection" to 90% and of "decent connection" to 80%, and "poor connection" to 70%? I don't know. Lag compensation of "excellent connection" could be reduced to 95% or whatever.

Tell me why I loosed this game I had good connection 10s and premove which predicts move?

Is it really any lag compensation?

Qc3 should be played but I lost on time ... - no premove is done.

#1 It got reduced several times already. Use the search feature at the upper right-hand corner of the page. Here's an example of a previous discussion on the topic:

#2 Check https://lichess.org/lag but lag spikes happen. If this isn't a common occurrence, it's likely nothing to worry about.

Thanks for showing this other topic, I didn't know it.

#2 Don't know what exactly happened in your match, but afaik lag compensation is only up to 1 second.
