I sympathise, its very hard to stop playing sometimes, maybe try slower time controls they are definitely less addictive. If you must play fast stuff then play anonymously and who cares if you win or lose.

Bro, I have the same problem. I try to use this method where if I lose 2 games in a row, I take a 5 minute break, and then come back and play some more. This really helps prevent my rating from dropping a massive amount in one day. Usually just taking a small break can help your brain calm down and then get back into making quick decisions and winning.

I can break my blitz addiction ANY TIME I WANT TO !!!!!!
I just, you know,
don't wanna.
After all, I've only played slightly more than 22,000 games. On this server, anyway. Let's not count that other one.
How can I handle the pressure? At this point in my life, I play unrated!
When we play chess as a hobby because we love it, not worrying about rating doesn't seem to be a bad idea, does it? Even if that seems a bit ... less common ... a loss can't keep me awake. And (let's be frank) chess rating isn't perfectly correlated with IQ or with individual worth anyway!
I guess it's a good thing that I don't have any homework. I'm not a chess professional, and I don't think that chess should ever come before homework or anything else that's important. Even though it does seem like a nice hobby! I certainly like it better than most television shows or video games!
When chess begins to take away too much time from other things, I'll dig out a math book. Or practice the piano. Or chase the spaniel around outside.
Now excuse me, I've gotta go lose some games.

Maybe, it would help to take a close look at the cost of snap decisions. In the

Did you read what the OP said? He has a serious addiction that he cant control which he believes is ruining his life. And you offer him game analysis? Now is not the time...
@MarvelFan , you were given some good advice by @Bazigar_64squqres . It's not going to be easy, but you need to speak with someone.
Good luck...

Thank you so much to everyone that replied. I have decided that I should only play longer format games such as 10+0 for a while before starting to play speed chess again. Especially since I have some OTB tournaments in the coming weeks. Again, Thanks for all of your help and I appreciate every single one of you for your feedback. I feel much better and healthier now all thanks to you!

Took me ages but I don't play bullet anymore at least, just not fun to play & not learn, good luck.
Even 3min chess is rubbish really, even very strong players can't play a good game that fast, the games are riddled with blunders.
It's an escape but once you have to shut down for the night all your problems remain, and it's not good for your health to be all keyed up while totally stationary.

Just stop. If you cannot do this by yourself you need help, seek a professional addiction counselor, not an anonymous online forum. Wish you the best on your journey.
